“This piece is all about playing with texture—both the texture that was already on the reused canvas, and the texture I created using house paint, lots of silicone oil, and some acrylics. I was definitely thinking about Acadia National Park, especially Sand Beach. I know it’s a bit cliché, but there are places there where you can sit and see all these different colors from the rock formations and the trees that back right up to the beach. I got a bit lost in the memory while talking about it!
“Basically, I was inspired by the places where sand and water meet, the colors from the sun bleeding into the water at sunset, and the hills. Acadia has always been special to me. I actually avoided Sand Beach for a long time because it was always crowded, but now I’ve realized it’s always worth stopping there.”
